GSHP case study 3

Following the installation of Ground Source Heat Pump Systems (GSHPs) for a rural holiday development at Robertsbridge, on the East Sussex/Kent border, the client asked Nicholls Boreholes to put in place an annual service agreement to ensure their smooth running and maximum efficiency.

We installed two GSHP systems at the property. One consists of five boreholes and powers underfloor heating for holiday cottages, stables, a barn and leisure pools. The other is a three-borehole system providing hot water and heating for the client’s main property. These systems enable the client to benefit from payments under the commercial RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) scheme.

The annual service for both these systems follows our meticulous 10-point procedure which ensures every aspect of the systems are checked for performance and any maintenance issues dealt with without delay.

  • The flow rate of each borehole is checked at the manifold (if this is accessible) and adjustements are made necessary
  • The Glycol index is checked (should a full Glycol replacements be needed, we advise the client of the cost per litre)
  • The Glycol is topped up and the pressure is adjusted if needed.
  • All equipment is given a visual check
  • Plant room filters are all cleaned
  • Heat pump settings are checked in detail and any necessary adjustments made*
  • Underfloor heating manifold flow rates are checked
  • The system is checked for any stored alarm messages
  • The hot water cylinder is given a full service
  • The operation and setting of thermostats is thoroughly checked*.

The client is extremely pleased, not only with the quality of the ground source heat pump systems but with the thoroughness and professionalism of Nicholls Boreholes’ GSHP servicing.

In 2010 Nicholls Boreholes supplied and installed a ground source heat pump system with boreholes and underfloor heating for our holiday cottages and spa. They then returned in 2011 to supply and install a ground source heat pump system with boreholes for our main house.

We have been very pleased with the professional service that we were given. The heat pump works extremely well and we would have no problem in recommending them to other customers.”

Knowing our reputation for water borehole drilling and borehole servicing, the client also asked us to undertake water borehole drilling at the property so they could enjoy a private water supply. This now distributes to their equestrian centre, holiday cottages, houses, swimming pools and smallholding.

A separate borehole servicing agreement now covers the water boreholes, giving the client maximum peace of mind regarding their heating and water supply.

Nicholls Boreholes regularly undertakes Ground Source Heat Pump Systems drilling and water borehole drilling as well as borehole servicing in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Kent as well as further afield in Berkshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.
