We have just completed the 2nd phase of works drilling for Perenco in Wareham, Dorset. Perenco are a highly respected international oil company, who we completed the 1st stage of works for at the beginning of the year, drilling 60 boreholes.
Ben Nicholls was asked to speak at the GSHPA (Ground Source Heat Pump Association) national conference last week and gave an informative talk on dispelling the myths regarding domestic boreholes. Nicholls boreholes have worked on over 150 GSHP domestic borehole installations and Ben was able to talk about our experiences. Nicholls boreholes is also a member of the GSHPA who are working towards best practice standards within the industry.

This year Nicholls have undertaken its first project for London Underground at their site at Chesham, Buckinghamshire to overcome trackside drainage issues.
The project involved installing 4 no. 10m soakaway boreholes and drainage catch pits beside the track in difficult conditions with restricted access. Our staff working on the project were required to hold Lucas cards* in order to be able to work for London Underground and all of our plant machinery went through a stringent plant approval process. * London Underground has required that anyone working on their infrastructure must have the necessary understanding on access, health, safety and environmental issues affecting the Underground.

We are currently working for Perenco, a highly respected international oil company. We are drilling 60 boreholes and installing cathodic protection rods at various locations to upgrade the corrosion protection on their pipelines. This will increase the operational life of the pipelines and help to further protect the environment. This picture shows us drilling one of the boreholes at the site in Wareham, Dorset.
Nicholls Boreholes have designed and developed a hydraulic loop feeder (patent number 1108318.5) to assist us with the safe and controlled installation of 40mm borehole probes. We have sold many of these and then at the beginning of 2013 our double loop feeder was produced and our first one sold to a company in Europe.
Our offices are now fed directly from a newly installed wind turbine and solar pv panels. They produce enough electricity to run our office and our ground source heat pump, making our office better than carbon neutral.
